One should not (says sophistication) put the little man in his cockpit, the sailor on the deck, the captain on his bridge. In this way one amasses a great many ‘little men’, all unpainted, all (in the case of the pilots) in a hopeless seated position. Following the psychology of certain wartime divisions one might call the resulting miscellaneous collection the Forgotten 21st or Unlucky 13th. Meanwhile, innocence does not scruple to people the cockpit, or to sail its boat with a stiff and numerous, Egyptian crew.
Wise as doves.
